Former Sacramentan To Be Chief Energy AdviserGov. Gray Davis (news - web sites) has picked a familiar face to Sacramento power customers to be his chief energy adviser.
Former Sacramento Municipal Utility District (news - web sites) director S. David Freeman (pictured, right) has been working as an advisor to the governor in negotiating power contracts. And now he will focus on conservation. "I just think that we can lick this energy problem this summer if we just put our minds to it," Freeman said. Freeman was SMUD's general manager from 1990 to 1994. He has been picked to get Californians to conserve. "It's a matter of recognizing that there's a real shortage, and a way to beat these out of state generators that are trying to take all the money in California to Texas," Freeman said. Freeman will oversee two new laws that created more than $500 million in conservation programs. Freeman has been the general manager of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (news - web sites). He will resign that post to become the chief energy advisor full time.
